Installing ArcGIS in computers owned by a Washington
State public institution of higher education
Before doing anything, please sign up for, UW-GIS-L,
the listserv for distribution of UW-wide GIS announcements, including important
information about software and the site license. UW
GIS-L Information
In order to run ArcGIS software it is necessary to connect to a license service.
The license service can be running on one of the license servers managed for
the University of Washington (option 1 below for most users) or on your own
machine (option 2 below for fewer users).
Follow the instructions based on your choice below. Please read and understand the list before proceeding. If you are confused by the list below, you probably want option 1.
- I will be running ArcGIS on a computer that
is located at one of the UW campus locations (Seattle, Bothell, Tacoma) or
a remote site that has internet connectivity managed by the UW. Most
users will select this option.
- I will be running ArcGIS on a computer that
is separated from the UW network (for example, I work in the field and there is no connection to the UW network.) Few users
need this option.
- I would like to run a license server for my college
or department within the University of Washington. Nobody
should need this option.
